361 First Methodist Church, Eclectic, 1839-1840

            Originally a Greek Revival structure with four columns supporting a wide entablature and full pediment, this building was the Methodist Church. It had a large central clock and bell tower. The only original Greek detail remaining is the wide entablature on the north side. In 1885 the structure was drastically altered when the bracketed gable replaced the columns and pediments.

The Geneva Historical Society Museum can offer more information about the history of and architecture of Geneva. The restored Federal home is open to public 1:30-4:30 p.m.; Monday through Friday year round and Saturday 1:30-4:30 p.m., June through October. It is easily located at the crossroads of Route 14 and Routes 5 & 20.
